Priming Part 2

Hours: 3.0 Manual Ref: Page 6-4, step 5; Page 7-6, Step 13 Partner: N/A

The temperature got to a balmy 53 Fahrenheit today! So, I’m continuing from where I left off…

  1. Mix a few ladles of Akzo primer part A with part B in a plastic paint bucket, and get HPLV gun ready to spray.
  2. Put on a full body paint suit (you're going to need it!)
  3. Spray each part enough to completely cover with primer, but not so much that it runs.
  4. Allow parts to dry for about an hour, even though they are probably dry in about 10 to 15 minutes.

The Akzo primer actually does go on pretty nice, and I now understand why in all of my research I could not find any pictures or videos of the priming process. It is a VERY messy process. Even with a fairly elaborate paint booth, a little bit of the over spray managed to get out, but not enough to harm anything. Since I had not managed to clean the rudder skins before I started spraying primer, I still have to do those pieces, but that should be a small task.  You can see the primer “dust” on the vinyl covering that is still on the vertical stabilizer.  It truly gets on everything.
