Priming VS and Rudder

Hours: 2.0 Manual Ref: Page 6-4, step 5; Page 7-6, Step 13 Partner: N/A

I’ve started the priming process! Well, at least the prep work for priming. I’ve opt’ed to go with the following approach:

  1. Clean the part with acetone. Using a paper towel to rub the acetone. This pretty effectively cleans off any oil, markings, etc. So be prepared to remember what part is what ;-)
  2. Scratch the part with a scotch-brite pad. I tried the "store" variety scotch-brite pads (those joined to a sponge). They just don't seem to do the trick. A "7447" scotch-brite pad does exactly what it should ;-)
  3. Spray the part with alumiprep. I'm using a generic garden sprayer from the aviation department of my local Ace Hardware.
  4. Spray the part with water, to rinse off the alumiprep. I'm using a sprayer that I bought in the aviation department of my local Lowe's

I’ll fill in the rest of the steps after I do them (so I know what they are).  It looks like that may be a few days, as the temperatures are just too low to be applying primer :-(
